Bourjois Colour Edition 24 Hour Cream Eyeshadow

IMG_1705[1]

Petale de Glace, Plum Nocturne, Or Desir

The latest offering from Bourjois does not fail to please. The Colour Edition 24 Hour Cream to Powder Eyeshadows come in six metallic shades: Merveille D’argent (silver shade), Or Desir (gold shade), Petale de Glace (light pink shade), Plum Nocturne (berry shade), Kaki Cheri (khaki green), Bleu Tenebreux (blue shade). All of the shades are gorgeous, I currently have Or Desir, Petale de Glace and Plum Nocturne.

I have been loving Plum Nocturne, it’s a beautiful berry/plum shade. I tend to apply it with my fingers as I find it warms the product up and it makes it easier to apply on your lids without dragging them unnecessarily. I usually build it up as I find one layer is a little sheer for my liking and then blend out my lid using my Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush. I also like to sweep a little under my lower lash line using my Mac 239 brush. I tend to alternate between Or Desir and Petale de Glace as my inner corner highlight. I have been loving this look this week, I find it really easy to achieve early in the mornings. I’ll just add lashings of mascara and I’m ready to go.

As far as the 24 hour claim is concerned, I can’t say I can back that up. I would say that they last around 6/7 hours and then I can see it beginning to fade but that’s probably because my lids get super oily so for those of you with normal lids, it would probably last a bit longer.

Priced at £6.99 I think these are great value for money so head down to Boots or Superdrug and get swatching. I’m pretty sure they still have 3 for 2 at the moment. You have can have a look at them here.

Have you tried any of the Bourjois Colour Edition 24 Hour Cream Eyeshadows?

Superdrug and Boots Haul

IMG_1629[1]

I went in to Superdrug over the weekend to buy some cotton pads to assist with the whole makeup removal process but instead I came out with some new makeup bits that I’ve been trying to get my hands on.

I usually go to Boots for all my makeup needs but I don’t like their cotton pads, they seem to come apart on my face and I’m pretty sure I once ended up with bits of the cotton pad in my eye (don’t ask, it was a horrid experience and I’m not quite sure how I was cleaning my eye makeup that it ended up in my eye!). So since that experience I decided never to buy cotton pads from Boots again.

As it happened Superdrug have a 3 for 2 promotion going on and boy do these things work well as one thing just leads to another. Before I knew it I had 3 items then 4, then oh well I might as well get a fifth one as the sixth one will be free!

So first up I got my hands on some un-attacked Bourjois 24 Hour Colour Edition Cream to Powder eyeshadow in three shades: Or Desir, a lovely gold shade, Petale de Glace, a light pink shade and Plum Nocturne, a plum shade. Branching out from my usual neutral browns and golds, aside from Or Desir of course, I went for the pink and plum toned eyeshadows for a more autumnal eyeshadow look. I think they will look great together with the light pink shade being used for the inner corner highlight and the plum shade all over the lid. Alternatively, the gold shade could be used in the inner corner for an equally great look. (There appears to be some sort of a mix up over the names, as the names on the website are different to the ones on the packaging, I’ve given the names on the packaging and hopefully linked to the right corresponding colours on the website).

I also managed to get hold of the new Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in Let’s Get Naked, which I had been looking for for a while, on the recommendation of Lily Pebbles of course. I’m not sure it suits me as much as it does her though.

Another purchase was the new Bourjois Color Boost Lip Crayon in Plum Russian, another Lily Pebbles inspired purchase. It’s a very autumnal sort of colour, something that is very much out of my comfort zone but surprisingly I’m really liking it at the moment.

Lastly, I picked up the new Lasting Finish Colour Rush Balm from Rimmel in two shades: Keep Mauving and The Redder The Better. The Keep Mauving shade is very much my sort of colour whereas The Redder the Better shade is not at all. The thinking behind it was that seeing as I tend to stick to my nude/pink shades, I thought it may be an easier way to move over to the dark side (in terms of lipsticks) with a red lip balm rather than a full on red lipstick straight away. So let’s see how that theory pans out.

That concludes my little haul. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my purchases.

So until next time…

L’Oréal Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution

20131027-182418.jpg

The Bioderma Micellar Solution has taken the blogosphere by storm but does the more readily available Loreal Purifying Micellar Solution do essentially the same job?

The Loreal Purifying Micellar Solution micellar acts as a 3 in 1 makeup remover, toner and soother. It works by dissolving the makeup on your face and removing impurities, rather than spreading them all over your face like makeup wipes can.

It actually works even better than some eye makeup removers at removing eye makeup. For example, the Nivea waterproof eye makeup remover doesn’t remove waterproof eye makeup at all and actually stings my eyes, all whilst leaving my eye area incredibly oily (not so great for my oily skin!)

The Loreal Micellar Solution, however, removes your makeup effortlessly, even stubborn eye makeup. And leaves your skin feeling wonderfully clean and refreshed. It actually makes makeup removal less of a chore.

I soak a couple of cotton pads with the solution and wipe away. Once I have removed my makeup using the Loreal Micellar Solution, I then follow up with face wash. I don’t feel like a cleansing routine is complete without the use of water. So I then wash my face with my cleanser of choice, the Kiehl’s Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser using tepid water to ensure I remove all remaining traces of makeup.

Priced at £4.99, this micellar solution is an absolute dream and performs the same job as any other micellar water but at a fraction of the cost. What’s not to love?!

Benefit’s Fakeup: Hydrating Crease-Control Concealer

I am an absolute sucker for concealers and cannot stop trying out new concealers even if I love what I already have. So, to continue my addiction in full force I have been trying out Benefit’s Fakeup, a hydrating crease-control concealer.

With apple seed and vitamin E extracts, this concealer aims to hydrate and conceal those dark circles, diminish the appearance of fine lines, all without caking, creasing or settling. Leaving you with a more much natural look. It is available in three shades: light, medium and deep.

I love the silver packaging of this product with the pink patterns on top. It has a really expensive feel about it (well it should do, cos it is!). It opens up rather deceivingly like a lipstick. You can see the concealer in the middle with the hydrating vitamin E and apple seed extract in a ring around it.

I apply the product, in the colour medium, straight onto my under eye area and then blend it out using my real techniques deluxe crease brush. I’d say it provides light coverage for your under eye dark circles whilst hydrating it at the same time. So you’re not left looking like you poured a bottle of concealer under your eyes and forgot to blend it in, as it’s not cakey at all. It doesn’t settle into fine lines but I do find that it creases up a bit, which I will resolve during the day when I have the chance to look in a mirror. And it leaves you with a very naturally concealed under eye area, which is what I usually look for in a concealer.

However, if you are someone who is looking for a heavy duty concealer then this one is not for you as will not achieve the sort of full coverage you would be looking to attain. But if you are looking for a concealer that conceals your under eye area without looking cakey then I’d say this would definitely be one to invest in.

Priced at £18.50 this one is a bit of an expensive one to fill my concealer shaped hole but it’s an investment that is very much worth it. You can have a look at it here.

Have you tried this concealer? What are your thoughts on it?

Soap & Glory Glow All Out Face Luminizing Powder

IMG_1363[1]

So I happened to pick this up a while ago whilst I was “passing by” Boots as I’d heard a lot of good reviews about it so decided I’d see what the fuss was all about. Now I can see why!

The packaging of this product is not something I like I have to say, being packaged in a white cardboard compact. It just looks quite cheap and I imagine it would get damaged very easily. I think it should be something more durable, given that it is something that is likely to last a long time. And as it’s more high end high street, it’s not a very cheap product so I don’t see why it couldn’t be packaged in a more sturdy plastic compact. That being said I do love how soap and glory has been embossed on the powder, now that’s something you don’t see very often. The compact also comes with a mirror which is rather useful.

On to the actual product, now this is said to be a face powder so it can be dusted all over the face for what they call a ‘moonlit’ effect. Personally, I’m not sure that’s a look I want to go for so I wouldn’t advise you to “glow all out”. So I’ve been using it as a highlighter instead. It’s a lovely pale pink colour which doesn’t actually show up on your skin, but leaves you with a really healthy, radiant glow. I just dust it over my cheekbones using my real techniques contour brush and as it blends in very easily without any visible lines it’s very quick and easy to apply. I think it’s perfect for day time use as it is very subtle and doesn’t leave you with a glitter bomb effect due to the fact that it doesn’t contain any glitter and it’s not very highly pigmented either.

The price tag of £11 is a little on the pricey side for a high street product but compared to some other high end powders which tend do the same job I would say it’s a complete bargain. You can check it out here.

Until next time…

Review: Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick

04 Rose tweed and 02 Beige trench

IMG_1062[1]

Swatches of 02 Beige trench (top) and 04 Rose tweed (bottom)

I’m only a recent recruit to lipsticks as I just found lipsticks to make my lips look worse as I have quite dry lips naturally and lipsticks just tended to dry them out even more.  So, I have been searching for lipsticks that are more hydrating and moisturising (if that’s possible for a lipstick) to suit my dry lips. In my search for a moisture rich lipstick that does not exacerbate my dry lips “condition”, I came across the Bourjois Rouge Edition lipsticks. With Orchid Blossom extract, these lipsticks claim to keep your lips hydrated for up to 10 hours.

I have been trying them out in number 02, Beige trench, and number 04, Rose tweed. Beige trench is a light pink/beige colour. I’m not entirely sure that the colour suits me very well though, but it feels incredible on. Whilst, Rose tweed is a beautiful mid-pink toned colour, which I think is a very easy colour to wear and would be perfect for everyday use. And in fact, I do wear this colour a lot.

For a high street lipstick, to be honest, I am very impressed. The consistency of the lipsticks is very creamy and hydrating, for the first time I don’t feel like it dries out my lips like most other lipsticks. And it has a lovely sheen to it when applied. So if you have dry lips like myself and have difficulty finding lipsticks that don’t settle into the cracks of your lips (gross I know) I’d suggest trying these lipsticks. They’re absolute lifesavers! They are available in 18 different shades, so there’s bound to be a colour to suit everyone. For £7.99, they’re great value for money and with buy one get one half price at Boots right now, it couldn’t be a better time for some new lipsticks. Check them out here.

What do you think of the lipsticks from this range? Have you tried any other lipsticks that aren’t drying?
